HaveYouPrayedTodayI’ve had many people ask me to blog about how to plan a Vacation Bible School from the ground up. I’m not sure I have the time right now to do that, but I would like to share something I include in the foundation of planning. It pertains not only to V.B.S. but any ministry. It is Prayer…

I make sure that every ministry I play a key role in has prayer as the center, foundation, and backbone of the ministry. I wanted to solidify this point in V.B.S. this year, so I assigned “spiritual sponsors” for each child. God gave me this idea as I was praying over the kids (named and unnamed) who would be attending this year’s event. I was driving along in my minivan, praying, when I began to think about how much I depend on the prayer support of others to help me through life.

I always have a registration table set up at a Christian, elementary school art show. As we were nearing the week of Vacation Bible School, I assigned all the V.B.S. volunteers a short list of children’s names who would be attending. Each volunteer has the job of praying specifically over their list for each child and then they meet and greet them at V.B.S. This way, all children are prayed over and feel special when someone goes out of their way to make them welcome at the event. At the end of every new evening of V.B.S. I add the newly registered children to our prayer lists.

Prayer is the foundation of any God honoring ministry. Wisdom and new perspective comes from a relationship of invested communication with the Father. (Click to tweet.)

If you are serving in any ministry, no matter what it is, I implore you to apply prayer in each aspect. Regardless of how busy and overwhelmed you may become while planning, you can never remove communication with Christ from your event. He is your foundation. Honor Him with your cares.

Psalm 6:9

The Lord has heard my supplication; The Lord will receive my prayer. (N.K.J.V.)

Have a wonderful day!
